Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of social, economic, and demographic factors on the desired number of children among women of reproductive age in Denpasar City. The study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The sample consisted of 100 married women of reproductive age aged 15–49 years residing in Denpasar City, selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results show that age at first marriage, educational attainment, employment status, household income, and the number of living children simultaneously have a significant effect on the desired number of children. Partially, age at first marriage has a negative but statistically insignificant effect. Educational attainment and household income have significant negative effects. Women working in the formal sector desire fewer children than those working in the informal sector. In contrast, the number of living children has a significant positive effect on the desired number of children. The Adjusted R Square value of 0.732 indicates that 73.2 percent of the variation in the desired number of children is explained by the variables included in the model. The findings indicate that fertility preferences are associated with socioeconomic conditions and reproductive experiences, suggesting that family planning efforts should consider educational background, employment characteristics, household economic conditions, and reproductive experiences.
